While factory-applied finishes for steel garage doors are so durable that they will last many years longer than ordinary paints,
it is desirable to clean them thoroughly on a routine basis. Apparent discoloration of the paint may occur when it has been
exposed in dirt-laden atmospheres for long periods of time. Slight chalking may also cause some change in appearance in
areas of strong sunlight. A good cleaning will generally restore the appearance of these coatings and render repainting
unnecessary. An occasional light cleaning will also help maintain an aesthetically pleasing appearance. To maintain the
original finish of the garage doors, the only regular maintenance necessary is that of annual washing. Mild solutions of
detergents or household ammonia will aid in the removal of most dirt, and the following are recommended levels:
One cup of Tide™, or other common detergents, which contain less than 0.5% phosphate, dissolved into five gallons of warm
water. NOTE: The use of detergents containing greater than 0.5% phosphate is not recommended for use in general cleaning
of garage doors.
CAUTION: NEVER MIX CLEANSERS OR DETERGENTS WITH BLEACH.
SURFACE PREPARATION FOR PAINTING
Wax on the surface must be removed or paint peeling/flaking will result. To remove this wax, it will be necessary to lightly
scuff the surface with a gray (not green!) 3M ScotchBrite pad saturated with soapy water. A final wipe and rinse should be
done with clean water only, to remove any loose dust or soap film.
Surface scratches, which have not exposed the metal substrate, can be lightly buffed or sanded with 0000 steel wool or No.
400 sand paper to create a smoother surface. Care must be taken to not expose the substrate under the paint (see Note No. 2).
Once this exposed condition exists, the likelihood for rusting is greatly increased. See the following paragraph if the metal
substrate is observed.
Exposed substrate must be treated to prevent rust from forming (see Note No. 2). Sand the exposed area lightly and paint
with high quality metal primer to protect from corrosion. Follow drying time on primer can label before applying topcoat.
The surface to be re-coated must not be to smooth or the repaint material will not adhere to it (see Note No. 2). It is advisable
to test a representative area to evaluate adhesion. If poor adhesion is observed, the surface must be abraded by sanding or
buffing using grades mentioned above. Care must be taken to not expose the substrate under the paint.
PAINTING
After the surface has been properly prepared it must be allowed to dry thoroughly, then coated immediately with a premium
quality latex house paint. Follow the paint label directions explicitly. Oil base paint is not recommended. Please note that if
substrate is exposed, painting with latex paint may cause accelerated rusting of steel.
NOTES:
1. Repainting of finish painted steel doors cannot be warranted as this condition is totally beyond door manufacturer’s
control.
2. If the steel door surface has a finish painted textured surface representing wood grain, stucco, etc., this step should not
be attempted as danger of exposing substrate is greatly increased.
3. Consult a professional coatings contractor if in doubt about any of the above directions.
4. Follow directions explicitly on the paint and solvent container labels for proper applications of coatings and disposal
of containers. Pay particular attention to those directions involving acceptable conditions in which to paint.

Care and Maintenance of
Your Dreamscreens retractable screens
Congratulations on the purchase of
your new Dreamscreens. We have established the following
simple guidelines to assist you in caring for and maintaining
your Dreamscreens to ensure years of trouble free service.
*Always keep Dreamscreens stored in the
retractable position when not in use. When the screen is
retracted safely in the housing, there is no exposure to
potentially damaging environmental elements and the life of
the screen mesh will be extended substantially.
* Be sure to keep the bottom guide rail
free of dirt, sand and debris that may effect door
performance. Periodic vacuuming of the track and the
lower screen housing is highly recommended.
*If the Dreamscreens have not been used in a
while or are not opening smoothly they may require
lubrication. Always use a greaseless silicone
spray. Do not use WD40 or like products.
Simply apply a small quantity along the front edge of the top
and bottom tracks and cycle the door open and closed several
times. Wipe off any excess and this should restore the
smooth operation of you door.
*Remember that the door uses a spring to keep
tension on the screen and will retract abruptly if the handle
is released or the mesh material is pushed in. Always
retract the screen slowly using the handle to guide the screen
evenly into the housing.
*Dreamscreens are very easy to see through
and may not be noticed when the screen is in the open
screening position. To prevent an accidental
walk-through, you may want to consider weaving a bright
colored thread through the screen at eye level or using a
decorative stencil with acrylic paint to create a
design. Even small thin vinyl adhesive back decals may
work to call attention to the screen. Just be sure that
the thread or decals are thin enough as to not impair screen
operation.
*It is normal for the screen material to
sometimes sail outside of the tracks during very windy
conditions and our exclusive deep top track design helps to
reduce this situation from occurring. Retract the screen
and open it again will the cause the screen to automatically
reset itself.
*Remember, the insect mesh used on
Dreamscreens is intended to provide reasonable insect control
and should not be used to retention and/or security of
objects, animals or persons from inside or outside your home.

Care and Maintenance of Your Vinyl
Windows and Doors
Congratulations on choosing windows and doors that offer
the easy care and maintenance of vinyl. Vinyl won't pit or
peel with only simple care and cleaning, your windows can keep
their beautiful appearance for years to come.
Like any surface exposed to outside elements, your windows
or doors will get dirty from time to time, but cleaning them
is a snap. Often, heavy rains will wash the vinyl clean, but if
the rain isn't enough, you can restore the splendor of the
windows or doors by following these simple instructions.
Wash using mild detergent (if necessary) and a soft cloth
or ordinary long-handled soft bristle brush. Do not wash the
windows or doors with a high pressure spray. The extreme
pressure could crack or destroy the caulking around the window
or door.
For difficult to remove dirt and stains use the readily
available household cleaners listed on the chart. Follow the
manufacturer's instructions on use of the cleaners.
In some cases you may wish to use a mildly abrasive cleaner
such as Soft Scrub®, but the use of any abrasive material
could scratch the surface of the glass and window or door
frame.
Do not use liquid grease remover, strong soaps and
detergents containing organic solvents, nail polish remover,
furniture polish or cleaners containing chlorine bleach. These
items could affect the surface appearance of the vinyl.

Operation of Your Vinyl Windows and Doors
Along with being virtually maintenance free, your windows
and doors have been designed and manufactured to be thermally
efficient, aesthetically pleasing and easy to operate. For easy
access during cleaning, all Double Hung sash tilt in, Slider
sash lift out, Casement sash open by turning the handle and
doors feature corrosion-resistant rollers.
To tilt in the operable sash on Double Hung and Single Hung
windows, you must:
Unlock the sash and raise (or lower) it approximately 2"
above (or below) the frame.
Slide the tilt latches toward the cam lock and gently tilt
the sash in. Always support tilted sash while cleaning.
When finished cleaning, tilt the sash up and snap the tilt
latches into place. For safety, make sure the tilt latches are
securely engaged.
If it becomes necessary to remove and reinsert the sash,
tilt the sash inward to a 90-degree angle and lift the bottom
of the sash up and out of the frame. To reinsert the sash into
the frame, make sure both pivot bars (located at the bottom of
the sash) are fully inserted into the balance shoes.
To remove a Slider sash, simply:
Unlock the sash and slide it past the sash retainer insert
located in the head. Note: Some windows may have
a sash retainer clip instead of an insert that must be removed
before opening the sash.
Lift the sash up into the head and pull the bottom of the
sash towards you.
To operate Casements:
Lift the handle on the side of the frame to unlock the
sash. Turn the handle on the bottom of the frame to open the
sash to the desired position.
Turn the handle in the opposite direction to close the
sash. To lock the window, make sure the sash is fully closed
then lower the handle on the side of the frame.
To lock patio doors:
Close the operable sash and make sure it is fully against
the frame.
Lock the sash with the lever located on the sash
handle. Back to Top of Page
